Semblance and Event: Helena Hamilton

This exhibition brings together elements of Hamilton’s innovative practice, which crosses the lines between object, digital interaction and action/performance. Sound, both incidental and composed, underpins her works like a fourth dimension. The exhibition features a more expansive re-interpretation of her work to date with an emphasis on works that excavate and frustrate the function and appearance of objects and materials. ‘Semblance and Event’ seeks to draw together old and new works that will bring into dialogue stark and austere examinations of materials and matter with processes of making that resemble ascetic practices of repetition. Through this, Hamilton seeks to untangle meaning in the everyday whilst simultaneously ingraining in her works an embodied reinterpretation that bring forth often unnoticed aspects of lived experience into visibility.

This is the second of two successive solo exhibitions, the first of which took place at The Agency Gallery, London (17th Feb – 1st April 2018).
