‘Healing’ by Karolina Baldyga
Opening exhibition event: Saturday 8th November at 2pm
Healing is a series of five large-scale paintings (100x100cm). Accompanying each painting is a poem, elucidating the distinct phases of this transformative journey charting Karolina’s journey through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. At the heart of the series is a recurring motif: a heart form marked with nipples, symbolising the breast and the body’s resilience. Each work also carries the hashtag #loveyourselffirst, highlighting self-love as a vital part of recovery.
The paintings progress through distinct stages — Glenanne Unit (the hospital waiting room), Not Great News (a stark black canvas reflecting the diagnosis), Just Wake Me Up (surgery), Radioactive Glow (radiotherapy), and Ringing the Bell (the completion of treatment). Vivid colours, layered textures, and personal symbolism bring this powerful journey to life.
This exhibition will be on display until Friday 12th December
