The exhibition This Place: Amanda Coogan & Tonya McMullan is the result of two 3 month artist residencies at Millennium Court Arts Centre. During their residencies Amanda Coogan and Tonya McMullan worked with older adults living in and around Portadown to explore their memories of the local area in an engaging way. Creative sessions with participating groups were hosted both in their communities and at MCAC. Additional workshops held at MCAC and open to the general public, included honey tasting, apple pressing, bread making and yoga. Both artists have used the residency, and their engagement with local people, to develop a new body of work based on the themes emerging from participants’ memories and reflections on the area. In the resulting exhibition, the artists have touched on some of the diverse narratives associated with Portadown to create new and innovative artworks that both celebrate the past and reflect on the present and future of the area. This Place is part of a large-scale engagement programme called Connected, jointly funded by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
